CrashPlan updated to 4.3.3

Trouble connecting to your headless CrashPlan instance? CrashPlan just recently pushed version 4.3.3 which again may have changed your unique synchronization key.

Although I am quite fond of CrashPlan, I dislike the way the program handles updates. Each time CrashPlan is updated you will need to update the .ui_info file permitting the client to talk to the server. If these two files mismatch, you won’t get any errors, but will be stuck on the CrashPlan splash screen.

If you are on Windows I suggest using WinSCP (or any other SCP-compatible software). Open WinSCP, select the SCP protocol, enter your servers IP-address, username (root) and password and hit Login. The file we are interested in is located at /var/lib/crashplan/.ui_info . Navigate to this folder and download the file to C:\ProgramData\CrashPlan\.ui_info   overwriting the existing file.

Quick note – there is now an IP at the end of the .ui_info string. I needed to change that from 0.0.0.0 to the LAN IP of my headless server (some might have 127.0.0.1). It seems changing the serviceHost entry in ProgramFiles\CrashPlan\conf\ui.properties (i.e., the OLD way to do it) has no influence and the change must be made to the .ui_info in ProgramData\CrashPlan\.ui_info

Thanks for the tip J W!

I had the hostname of my server in the .ui_info file, so for me it was enough to just download the file and replace it with the one on my client. 🙂
