Building a life-sized Piranha Plant from Super Mario

If you have played pretty much any Super Mario game, chances are that you have seen a Piranha Plant before. Which brings us to my wife and I’s latest project… a life size Piranha Plant!

The Piranha Plant is built almost completely out of paper mache. It’s about 65cm tall and 75cm wide from leaf tip to leaf tip while the green pipe adds another 1 meter and 10 cm to its height. The pipe is made of wood with a thin sheet of metal bend around it. Take a look at the video above too see the finished result and how we’ve built it.

We got the idea after creating a small “Arcade corner” in our living room. As you can see, we had a small fireplace in the right corner which we’ve never used. So, the pipe does a perfect job at hiding the fireplace and gives the arcade corner the finishing touch it needed.

We hope you appreciated our little project. 🙂

This is outstanding! I do have a question. How did you attach the head of the piraña plant to the stem? Also, What sort of bendy pipe did you use for the stem?
Thanks –

Sorry, I didn’t get notified of your comment so I didn’t see it until now. It’s attached with a bolt and a lot of hot glue around the outside of the stem. I’m not quite sure what the pipe is called in english. Just found it in the local hardware store. 🙂
